Windfarm Locations

Here is an interactive map of the locations of windfarm sites in the United Kingdom at various stages of development - from proposed sites to fully-operational windfarms.Currently, this map project is 'under construction'. When it is finished, it will link to information, pictures, sotries, news, and video about every existing and planned windfarm in the UK.

The map is best viewed using a browser that is not Internet Explorer 6 or 7. Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Opera are better alternatives.

= operational windfarm sites = sites under construction = Consented sites = proposed sites

I need your help

This map is incomplete - more than 200 windfarms are missing - and the locations are not 100% accurate. If a site near you isn't listed, or is shown in the wrong place, please get in touch and let me know with either the postcode, grid-references, or with a google map link. I will then update the map below

To let me know about a wind farm that is not shown in the map above, click here.

To let me know about incorrect information about a windfarm, or a windfarm that is listed in the wrong place, please click on the windfarm in question, in the list on the left of the map. This will show a window with a link to 'update information about this windfarm'.

I want to hear your stories, and what you think about windfarms

Do you live near an operational windfarm? Send me photos of the site before and after it was built. Tell me how it has changed the area, and how it affects you. Record your thoughts on a video camera, or mobile phone, and send it to me so that we can show to others how these monstrosities destroy our landscapes.

Do you live near the site of a proposed windfarm? Let me know of any local or regional campaigns that you're part of, so that I can let other people know. Keep me up to date with any news. Send me photos of the site. Record a piece to camera about how you think a windfarm will spoil the enjoyment of the area.

Do you live nowhere near a windfarm, but object to them anyway? Perhaps you enjoy days out in Britain's glorious countryside, and think that ugly arrays of turbines will ruin it? Maybe you think they won't help reduce our CO2 emissions. Let me know, in any format you like, what you think.

How to use the interactive map

The map above contains two parts. On the left is a list of the windfarms, ordered by the status of their development - operational, planned, consented, etc. On the right is the map itself, with icons that enable you to change the presentation of the map, and to zoom in and out, and to move about.

Zooming in and out of the map. You can zoom in and out of the map using the vertical slide on the left hand side of the map. You can zoom in by clicking and dragging the slider to the top (for zooming in) or the bottom (for zooming out). Or you can click the '+' (plus) button to zoom in, and the '-' (minus) button to zoom out.

Moving around the map You can move around in the map by clicking on an area, and holding the mouse key down, and then moving the mouse to the area you want to see.

Moving to the location of a specific windfarm You can move the map to the site of any windfarm by locating it in the left hand panel, and then clicking on the name of the windfarm.

Making windfarm icons visible/invisible There are a lot of windfarms in the view, which may be confusing. You can choose which windfarms to show by ticking or unticking the boxes next to each windfarm in the list on the left. You can choose to turn off an entire group by clicking the tickbox next to its name. To turn all of the icons off, untick the box at the top of the list called "All UK Windfarms".
